  4. Pudgal(matter) is one of the dravya(substance) out of the six also called astikaya which means realities can be expanded in meaning as puran, galan, which means conjunction, dis-junction. Its characteristic is of varna(colour), rasa(taste), gandh(smell), fasa(touch). Also it is characterized by sound, light, darkness(does not mean absence of light but presence of dark particles), luster(of jewels), shade, sunshine. Undergoes modification as singleness(ekathva), separateness(prithaktva) has a form, number. Shortest duration of pudgal in particular form is one samaya(indivisible part of time) and longest is anant(immeasurable). With regard to it as a substance it is without a beginning and without an end. With regards to its modification in particular it has a beginning and an end. Modification is 5 with regard to colour, taste, smell, touch and form. Modification in colour are black, blue, red, yellow and white(the base colours). Modification in smell is sweet smelling and foul smelling substances. Modification of taste is bitter, pungent, astringent, sour and sweet. Modifications with regard to touch is hard, soft, heavy, light, cold, hot, smooth and rough. With regard to modifications in form it is globular, circular, triangular, square and long. There are many sub-divisions with regard to each....Now ponder.

    Can we start with a new nice topic please?
    I want to know more about Bhaav Pratikraman? One that we can do any Samay of the day {night included of course}, at any place, in any aavran {clothes} and in any circumstance! One that does nto have to be a traight 48 minutes, but can be split into few minutes , whenever possible and available a chance?

  8. First of all lets understand the word pratikraman, the traditional meaning which we all know as regreting or condemning sinful acts done before.Now Pratikraman actually or simply means to look back or to turn back,as opposed to Atikraman,meaning to look or go forward.

We do pratikraman when we have hurt somebody by mind(thought) speech or body which is violence as we all know.We hurt some one when we are negligent or not careful ,or in an Ajagruth state.Hinsa is defined in tathvarthsutra as "pramadh yogath prana vyaparopanam hinsa".Which means when a person is in a state of negligence,and in that state if he harms any of the pran,which are ten in number,the five indriyas,and man,vachan,kaya, shwasoshwas,and ayushya is pranathipath or hinsa.

    Nice to now know the true meaning of Himsa as per TatvaarthSutra! ten praans? wow, never thought like it. If I hurt someone with words, I always thought my words and brain are wrong!
    Also, does this mean, that whenever I do wrong (Hinsa), I suffer 10-fold consequences?

The one who is observant,or aware (jagruth)of his thoughts,speech and bodily actions,comes to know naturally that whenever one has violent thoughts,speech or acts,he undergoes a state of agitation,and disturbance as opposed to equanimity or sambhav.It rises in the mind,graduates to his speech and manifests in action and thus invites disease.(Here disease means absence of ease or upashaanth avastha).The intelligent is careful to avoid this naturally and lives a life of carefulness even among the careless.Carefulness inherently means being attentive to all movements of thought, speech and actions.This is Swadhyay,means self study and not merely reading books.But one cannot be in a state of attention 24/7.So to be attentive (Jagruth) to the inattentive or negligent (Ajagruth) state is Pratikraman.To take remedial measures is prayaschit and paschatap !

  15. All bhavanas arises in the mind, memory being an integral part of it.To recall by thought (alochana) of the negligent state of mind speech and act, kshetra and kaal,which is time and space becomes irrelevant.Hence bhaav pratikraman, is not limited to time, space or clothes one wears etc.

    Thanks for your reply.
    So, Bhaav pratikraman has to be of 48 minutes? Can it be split in sessions across the whole day? What is the importance of 48 minutes here?
    The bhaav Pratikraman I do is yes, longer than 48 minutes but I encompass it with other acts, after the prtyakhyan stage (6th aavashyak). .

  18. Is 48 minutes broken down comes to 2 mins. per hour of a 24-hour day? (2x24 =48)? or is it that human mind is incapable of staying in focus and can only concentrate for less than approx.15 minutes straight?
    How should one do self cleansing during this coming paryushan? and forever than?
